We take a look back at May, where we had joyous festivities for Yom Ha’atzmaut, welcomed some of our littlest visitors, got out and about in Sydney, and celebrated the important work of Montefiore’s Nursing, Catering and Concierge teams, and our wonderful volunteers.
Yom Ha’atzmaut
On May 14th, we celebrated Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel’s Independence Day, commemorating the declaration of independence of the modern state of Israel in May 1948. With thanks to Hylton Chilchik for sharing his cover of Od Yavo Shalom Aleinu for this video.
Welcoming our littlest visitors
Randwick residents have recently enjoyed wonderful visits from local preschools including Kornmehl Centre Emanuel Preschool, Mount Sinai College ELC, and Moriah College ELC for Kabbalat Shabbat. It is always a joy to have visitors join us at Montefiore, and residents love spending time with the children and sharing these special moments.
We were also thrilled to welcome our two newest and youngest volunteers: Ezra, aged 8 months, and Viggy, aged 3 months. Viggy and Ezra, alongside their mum’s Naomi and Siobhan, have been helping out by visiting and interacting with Randwick residents living with dementia.
Out and about in Sydney
Winter arriving a bit early didn’t stop anyone from getting out and about in Sydney. Woollahra residents rugged up for a day out at Watsons Bay and a delicious fish and chips lunch, followed by a brisk walk in the very fresh air. Hunters Hill residents also enjoyed a beautiful morning tea at Eden Garden Centre and exploring the parks at Tramsheds.
Celebrating staff and volunteers
Last month was one for celebrating our wonderful staff and volunteers, with International Hospitality Day, International Nurses Day, and National Volunteer Week all happening in May. Thank you to our staff and volunteers for their invaluable work supporting residents and families every day at Montefiore!
