David is a Director at commercial law firm Abadee, Dresdner & Freeman. He specialises in commercial property.
In July 2008, David was awarded an AM (Member of the Order of Australia) for more than 30 years of service to the Jewish community.
His involvement has included time as Vice President of Wolper Jewish Hospital during which time in association with the Hon. President, late Sam Karpin, the hospital was completely redeveloped.
David also served as the Honorary Solicitor for the Jewish Communal Appeal for over fifteen years.
David joined the Montefiore Board in 1985, served as Vice President for eight years and was elected President in 2004. Since 2000, he has chaired the Montefiore Development Committee (MDC) responsible for the planning, design and construction of the Randwick Campus.
The first stage, comprising 276 individual rooms with en-suite bathrooms and a range of communal areas, won the 2009 Property Council of Australia Innovation and Excellence Award.
The second stage, known as M by Montefiore, included the design and construction of 79 well-appointed and spacious Independent Living Units, all of which are now sold. A Development Application for the final stage of development of the Randwick campus was lodged with the NSW Department of Planning on 1 September 2023. This comprises an additional 37 apartments as well as a retail precinct and community plaza.
The MDC have also been active in master-planning the Hunters Hill campus which is currently subject to a rezoning application to allow the construction of new buildings on the site.
In addition to his role as chairperson of the MDC, David has been an active member of the Montefiore Executive and Finance Committees. During David’s Presidency, Montefiore’s operations have significantly expanded. The organisation is now acknowledged as one of the country’s leading quality aged care providers with significant growth plans underway.
