Barry Joseph

Barry was born into a family that has a long-standing relationship with Montefiore. His mother, Miriam, was a driving force of the Ladies’ Committee and a Board member for more than 17 years. Elected to the Board in 2001, he continues this commitment with a passion, and presently serves on the Admissions Committee.

Barry began his career in the clothing industry in 1965. In 1969, he commenced his own clothing and manufacturing business, which he ran successfully until 1998. Under the Presidency of the late Hal Goldstein AM OBE in the 1970s, Barry was a member of the House Committee and involved with Admissions.

Barry held the position of Federal Executive Director of the Australian Friends of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem for 15 years. In 2017, he was recognised by the University with an Honorary Fellowship and was recently appointed to its Board of Governors.

In 2020, Barry was named Woollahra Council Citizen of the Year.
