Companionship and care

Help at Home offers trusted support and care, whilst promoting your independence to live in the community, as well as residential and respite care.

Throughout the past year, Help at Home by Montefiore has successfully adapted not only to the many additional precautions and procedures necessitated by COVID-19, but to the changing needs of its client base. Now, with increased government funding for aged care on the horizon in the wake of the Royal Commission, the service is well placed to offer clients (CDC subsidised, fee-for-service and NDIS) everything from 24/7 nursing care to specialised allied health including physiotherapy, domestic support and companionship.

“Social isolation was a major factor that COVID restrictions really highlighted for older members of the community,” explains General Manager Amanda Guinane, who has seen a growth in companionship visits over the past few months. Care Coordinators work closely with each client to plan their care and ensure they’re paired with the same regular carers as much as possible, allowing staff to form meaningful personal connections as well as an understanding of individual needs.

Increasingly, Help at Home and Montefiore Residential Care are working closely together to support clients who are transitioning back home from a respite care stay. “We’ve had a number of success stories recently involving people who have made the most of a respite stay in Montefiore Residential Care to get their health and wellbeing back on track,” explains Amanda. “Our care coordinators will then work with the client, their family, and the residential care team to set them up for a seamless transition back home, with the added support they need to continue to live independently.”
Private companions are also available to visit clients already living in residential care – providing social engagement and assistance with outings when loved ones are unable to be there. “Although clients are already in Residential Care, using a trained Help at Home companion offers peace of mind, as all staff undergo rigorous employment checks and training, including COVID-safe practices.”
