Become a volunteer

Volunteering at Montefiore involves personal growth, self-fulfilment, education, and the joy of helping others.

We encourage Montefiore residents, their families and members of the wider community to become a volunteer and experience the joy of giving.

By giving generously of your time and sharing your talents, you will contribute to the social and emotional wellbeing of our residents and enhance their quality of life.

Within our volunteer programs at Randwick, Hunters Hill, Woollahra and Maroubra Shores campuses, you can choose from a variety of roles including:

  • Companionship
  • Reading to residents
  • Assisting diversional therapy programs
  • Social visits
  • Taking residents for walks
  • Clerical assistance
  • Library services
  • Shopping with residents
  • Music and entertainment
  • Arts and craft
  • Language and discussion groups
  • Café and boutique assistance
  • Assisting in the sewing room
  • Computer lessons for residents
  • Playing games

Full training is provided.

Currently, our 400-plus active volunteers provide on average 40,000 volunteer support hours annually. In 2011, our program was a recipient of a Better Practice Award from the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency.

Community Service and the Duke of Edinburgh Program
We also run a comprehensive Community Service Program for high school students. Students visit Montefiore and work with our residents. Students are supervised by our experienced staff at all times and given basic training which gives them an understanding of issues relating to aged residents in care.
