When a little extra help is required, Montefiore’s respite care can offer the support you need
Health and wellbeing are just as important for carers and families as it is for the people they care for. That’s why we provide a range of exceptional respite options, all delivering the high-quality care and the welcoming atmosphere that Montefiore is known for.
What is respite care?
Respite care is short-term or temporary care for people away from their regular carer or support network. It gives both the individual and their carer a chance to spend time independently from each other and recharge. Respite care can be arranged for a few hours or up to a few weeks. It is even available in emergency situations, such as if a carer needed to go into hospital.
A respite stay at Montefiore Residential Care offers clinical support, outstanding accommodation, freshly prepared meals, and varied leisure and lifestyle programs. We also offer respite care in the community through Help at Home and specialised programs for people living with dementia through our day centres.
Our respite care offerings:

From a few days to a few weeks, Montefiore’s premium residential respite care gives seniors temporary support in a high-care environment.
Our respite guests will experience many of the same benefits enjoyed by our permanent residents, including our leading leisure and lifestyle programs, private rooms with en-suite bathrooms, silver service dining, access to our beautiful grounds, and 24/7 registered nurse coverage. Plus, our carer-to-resident ratio is twice the industry average so you can be certain of faster response times and the very best personalised care.
Montefiore residential respite care is ideal when continuous care is required for a short time. It’s also a great way for people looking to transition into permanent residential care to sample everything Montefiore has to offer.
NB Allied health services are generally not available for residential respite care.

Our Help at Home service can cater for seniors in their homes, while giving their carers a few hours of respite. Our experienced Care Coordinators will individually tailor a program to suit your budget and needs, from help around the home, including cleaning and shopping, to assisted outings and in-home nursing care.

Our purpose-built day centres, The Burger Centre in Randwick and Club Monte in Hunters Hill, offer a range of activities and entertainment. Both centres feature programs designed to stimulate, motivate and encourage social interaction among older people in the community. Day centre clients also have access to Montefiore’s allied health professionals including nutritionists and physiotherapists. Every session includes morning tea and a freshly prepared hot kosher lunch. Transport to and from the centre is also available.
Our day centres are a fantastic option for carers and seniors looking for regular or occasional respite care for a few hours a week.
NB Based on advice received from NSW Health, our day centres are currently closed due COVID-19. However, virtual support is available. Please contact the day centres directly for more information.
